What is a digital video recorder?
A security digital video recorder (DVR) is basically a computer that allows you to save images to a hard drive. The technology is continuing to progress and DVRs are becoming faster and less expensive. A DVR replaces the need for a Time Lapse VCR Quad and Multiplexer. This reduces the overall cost of a video security system. The main advantages to a DVR are that it typically has a better picture than a VCR, the ability to record to a CD and you don't need to maintain it with new tapes.
What makes yours better than anyone else's?
We have tested many different models of DVR cards and complete DVR systems. What we found is that many overseas companies have jumped on the band wagon with products that are not reliable or that have minimal or no support at all. Our in house technical staff has been in the security industry for over 14 years and has seen it all. We know that after the sale support is critical. Installing these DVR systems is not difficult but if you do have questions you can call and speak with a knowledgeable technician. Also, we have very competitive pricing because of the volume that we do.
How is DVR better than a security VCR?
A VCR has a low resolution level. This causes the pictures to be grainy. And, the video tapes degrade and decompose within a short time. With a DVR you don't need to change tapes or touch the system at all for long periods of time. The only moving part is the hard drive and if a part breaks, you can easily replace it from the local computer store.
What should I look for in a DVR?
There are several important things to look at when buying a DVR. The first is the interface. Is it easy to operate? Does it look as though someone put thought into how the operator uses it? The second would be the reliability of the system. Because they are Windows based, they tend to have conflicts and lockups. They also use up resources that may cause the system to lockup if not maintained. Our systems can be set up to reset everyday at a time specified by you to eliminate this problem. Another thing to look at is the frames per second (fps). This relates to how many pictures it will take in a second. To calculate the fps per camera take the total fps in the system and divide it by the number of video inputs. For example, a 60 fps digital video recorder with 4 video inputs would result in about 15 fps per camera. Real time recording is about 30 fps on each camera. The technology is just getting to the point now where this kind of performance is affordable.
How do I see pictures from a remote site?
You can dial-in on a modem which is slow but can display 1 or 2 frames every 5 seconds. Better is a DSL or cable modem connection which can generally display 1 frame per second.
Should I build my own DVR system or get one
pre-built from you?
We build them so you don't have to fuss with all the compatibility issues. The software we use is propriety to the company. We do all of your software upgrades free of charge.
Is there anything cheaper?
Sure there is but would you want it? There are many units that have minimal options, are hard to use, and are not as reliable as the products we sell. We have many leftovers from testing if you want one cheap!
What guarantee do you offer on your products?
Camera equipment and accessories are "Guaranteed" by All Communications for 5 Years.

Category 5e cable is rated for a 10/100 Mbps network.
This cable is tested @ 200 MHz.
Category 5e 350MHz(Enhanced) is rated for a 10/100/1000 Mbps network.
This cable is tested @ 350 MHz.
What does the term “Bandwidth” mean?
Bandwidth, measured in Megahertz (MHz) is the capacity of the cable. Think of the bandwidth as the size of the data pipe and the data rate (mbps) is the amount of data that flows through the pipe. The larger the pipe, the more data that can flow through it.
What cable do you recommend I cable my office with...
Cat 5, Cat 5E or Cat 6?
It Depends on your office application. But at this time, the price for Category 5 & Category 5E is about the same. In light of this we would recommend installing at the
minimum, Category 5E cable and connecting hardware.
Can any I buy any type of patch cable for my network?
The patch cables used in your network need to have the same rating as the installed cable system. For instance if your network cabling is Cat 5e, you need to have Cat 5E patch cables to maintain the integrity of the Cat 5E rating.
What about cable, hardware and labor warranties?
Our installations carry a 1 year warranty on installed materials and a 1 year warranty on the installation labor. In some cases the manufacturer, with proper documentation will give a 15 year or lifetime manufactures warranty.
